If I focus excessive sunlight on my PG&E Smart Meter with a magnifying glass or parabolic dish will it still?
function properly?
At what temperature will the unit begin to fail?
Depends on exactly how well it is designed.
At some point it will fail. Will that be before or after the case melts? Don't know.
Most electronic equipment is designed to operate over a certain temperature range, typically –20ºF to +120ºF. Beyond that range, whatever it is, it will not operate correctly, but not necessairly be damaged. That usually (not always) takes a bit higher temperature.
Given that the meter is not your property, that will probably be a felony.
